Frances & Joe’s Wedding Invitations: Chapter 5 — Special Delivery

Like any other day, over the summer I opened my mailbox to bring in the day's post. Among the flyers, plastic-wrapped magazines and junk mail, a surprise: An emerald-green envelope with “Mr. & Mrs. Shawn Weston” handwritten in script.

They had arrived.

In the upper-right corner of the envelope was a pyramid of colorful stamps. It reminded me of the stationary that inspired me when I had started designing the invitations.

Once I got inside the house, I put the rest of the mail on the bureau and proceeded to open the envelope as carefully as I could.

Drumroll, please ...

Out of the envelope came the suite of invitations wrapped in a rawhide string.

Of course, a couple months earlier, I had formally received the save-the-date card I had designed from Joe and Frances. The card was double-sided. The photo of the couple on the front is by photographer Saed Hindash. See Saed’s amazing, eclectic body of work at saedhindash.com.

Testimonial

Joe was kind enough to speak for my work. Joe said, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Shawn for six years, during which I learned that if you turn him loose on any project, he will turn out top-tier design work that has mass appeal while maintaining his distinctive style and aesthetic.” Joe continued:

“When it came time to select a designer to create our wedding invitations, I had nobody else in mind. Shawn took our feedback and incorporated it into a finished work that delighted us and our guests. Throughout the creative process, he showed us iterations of the project while incorporating our feedback. The thoughtfulness with which he went about creating our wedding invitations and the personal attention he gave us were greatly appreciated, and the product Shawn created will be an indelible part of our wedding memories.”

I also want to thank Joe and Frances for the opportunity to work on such a personal project for them. It was a fun adventure.

Congratulations to the bride and groom, who last weekend tied the knot at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. I wish you two the very best in your life together.
